Solar Trailers for Remote Telecom Sites with GT

Your remote telecom and communications sites run day and night on small, steady loads, often far from the grid and far from your teams. Diesel generators keep them running but need fuel deliveries, servicing and security visits that cost more each year.

When a remote site loses power, the network loses coverage and you lose service, revenue and trust. Diesel theft, missed fuel deliveries and generator faults are common causes. A solar power trailer can cut fuel runs and visits, but if it is sized wrongly or left unmonitored, batteries run flat in poor weather and the site goes down anyway. That is the risk of downtime you are trying to remove.

USP&E Helps You Keep Remote Sites On Air

We know you want remote sites that stay up with fewer visits. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers supply and support hybrid solar, battery and generator systems and the larger plants behind them. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

You do not need to rebuild your network. You need trailers sized for each site’s load and weather, sensible backup, remote monitoring and a support plan for the whole cluster.

Size for Steady Loads and Poor Weather

Telecom loads are steady, which makes them a good fit for solar and batteries. Record the actual load day and night, including cooling, and note any growth planned as equipment is added. Size the panels to recharge the batteries in the shorter days of the year, not just in summer.

Battery autonomy is the key choice: how many days of poor weather the site must ride through on batteries alone before backup starts. More autonomy means fewer generator hours but more batteries to buy, transport and protect. Balance it against the cost of an outage and the time it takes your team to reach the site.

Choose batteries that suit the site temperature, because heat shortens battery life and cold reduces capacity. Our hybrid solar, battery and generator systems work starts with this sizing for each site.

Plan Backup, Monitoring and Security

Most remote telecom sites keep a small generator as backup for long poor-weather spells and battery faults. Set the battery level at which it starts and stops, so it runs efficiently at good load to recharge, not idling for hours. With good sizing, generator hours fall sharply, and so do fuel runs and servicing.

Remote monitoring is essential. Track solar output, battery state of charge, load, generator runs, temperatures and door alarms from your network operations centre. Set alarms for low battery, generator faults and intrusion so teams are sent only when needed, with the right parts.

Security matters on remote sites. Panels, batteries and fuel attract theft. Use secure enclosures, anti-theft fixings, lighting and alarms, and keep fuel stocks small. Our short-term rental power option can cover a site while a permanent solution is installed.

Support the Cluster, Not Just the Site

Plan visits, spares and refuelling for clusters of sites rather than one at a time. A team that services several sites in one trip, with spares for common faults, cuts cost and response time. Review performance each season and adjust battery settings, generator start points and cleaning schedules.

Where clusters of remote sites surround a town or mine with its own power, larger plants can support them: gas turbine generators, used/new gas turbines, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or natural gas engines/stations. The same hybrid thinking scales up to data centre campuses, where AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute run under hyperscale EPC/O&M, including the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA.

For larger solar plants with turbine firming, our sister site covers solar EPC with gas turbine firming. For remote sites, start with one trailer, measure the results and roll out from there.

FAQ: Solar Trailers for Remote Telecom Sites with GT

Can a solar power trailer run a remote telecom site?

USP&E finds that telecom sites suit solar trailers well because their loads are steady day and night. With panels sized for the shorter days, batteries sized for poor weather and a small backup generator, a trailer can cut fuel runs and site visits sharply.

How many days of battery autonomy does a telecom site need?

USP&E sets autonomy from the local weather, the cost of an outage and how long it takes your team to reach the site. More autonomy means fewer generator hours but more batteries to buy and protect. The right answer differs from site to site.

Do solar telecom sites still need a generator?

USP&E usually keeps a small generator as backup for long poor-weather spells and battery faults. It starts at a set battery level and runs at good load to recharge, then stops. With good sizing, generator hours, fuel runs and servicing all fall sharply.

What should be monitored remotely on a solar telecom site?

USP&E monitors solar output, battery state of charge, load, generator runs, temperatures and door alarms from your operations centre. Alarms for low battery, generator faults and intrusion mean your teams go out only when needed, carrying the right parts for the job.

Where are USP&E’s offices for solar trailer projects?

USP&E supports US solar trailer projects from Colorado Springs and Knoxville. Johannesburg and Cape Town plan roll-outs across African clusters, London handles contracts and finance, and Wuxi follows up panels, batteries and other equipment made in China for your trailers.

Has USP&E delivered power where the grid falls short?

USP&E supplied, packaged and serviced six zero-hour surplus Wabtec GE16V250 gensets for Zondereinde platinum mine, giving base-load power through Eskom load shedding, as a public case study shows. USP&E also refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines for data centres.

Is USP&E a broker for solar power trailers?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E supplies, deploys and supports hybrid systems with its own engineers, so the team that sizes your trailers is the same team that sets up monitoring and supports the cluster after the trailers arrive on site.

How fast can USP&E size trailers for my telecom sites?

USP&E can start as soon as you share site loads, locations and current fuel use. Engineers size a first site quickly, so you can trial one trailer, measure the fuel and visit savings, and then roll out across the cluster with confidence.

Keep Your Sites On Air for Less

Size the trailers well and monitor them and your remote sites stay up with fewer fuel runs and visits. Guess the sizing and batteries run flat in poor weather. USP&E will help you size, deploy and support with confidence.
